The Deltrintems arrived and are in 100% cosmetic condition. The glass is pristine. The T3M red/brown coatings are quite pretty. The view is without any hazing and quite bright and crisp (with one possible exception to be noted). The T3M coatings impart a yellowish warm hue that my eyes see as a slight greenish hue that doesn't bother me at all. The build quality seems to me to be top notch. Focus is very much affected by the diopter setting.

With my Deltrintems a properly set diopter seems essential to maximizing sharpest focus, more so than other binoculars that I have experienced. The view doesn't so much snap into focus and part of this seems to be due to a rather shallow depth of focus, especially for an 8x30.

Viewing at night shows to be off a bit vertically and just a tad horizontally. Brighter stars 2nd magnitude and brighter are seen as noticeably double while fainter stars are single. The were quite pretty but Aldebaran is doubled. Nonetheless, stars are beautifully pinpoint. It is possible that I will send these off to Suddarth Optical for collimation but if I determine that the terrestrial views are unaffected I will let it be.

8x30 isn't my astro choice and I have other 8x30 that would do nicely. I have also taken delivery of Hapo-Sport 8x30 made by Tokyo Optical (in pristine condition which will be the topic of another thread) that offer stunning views both day and night that are in perfect collimation. Regarding the Jenoptem binoculars offered for lower price as noted by Holger Merlitz, the reason has been following: Around 1980, the designers at Zeiss have succeeded to considerably improve and simplify the Porro prisms mount mechanics, which used to be due to the wide spacing of the prisms in the classic Carl Zeiss Jena binoculars optics train pretty time consuming to align in the manufacturing process. Herewith, they have saved the manufacturing costs and became more competitive on the price point.
